IPL or PSL? Ramiz Raja mistakes Indian Premier League for Pakistan Super League in commentating blunder

The Indian Premier League is by far the richest and most popular T20 cricket League on the planet. However, the IPL made a surprise appearance in the PSL in a rare slip-up for former Pakistani cricketer and commentator Ramiz Raja. Raja’s blunder on live television quickly went viral on social media, with the 62-year-old getting mixed up with the IPL and PSL in a post-match presentation.

What did Raja say?

As the Multan Sultans claimed their first win of the season in a 33-run victory over the Lahore Qalandars, Raja called out Irish cricketer Josh Little to be awarded as the winner for the best catch of the match. The Irishman bagged the prize for his impressive effort to claim the wicket of Qalandars’ Fakhar Zaman. However, Raja’s untimely slip-up of words took centre stage when the well-known commentator said, “What a catch. Probably the catch of the HBL IPL”.

The Multan Sultan’s get off the mark

Despite Raja’s mishap on the mic, the game in itself was a treat for the audience. After a trail of three defeats to open their PSL campaign, the Multan Sultans picked up a much needed first win on the night. After crumbling twice on the chase and failing to defend a 234 total in their season opener last year’s finalists desperately needed a positive result on Tuesday. MS’s prayers were answered through Yasir Khan, whose impressive knock of 87 from 44 got things going for the hosts.

Mohammad Rizwan, Usman Khan and a late 40-run cameo at the death from all rounder Iftikhar Ahmed helped the men in green to post an impressive 234 on the board. When it was time for MS to field, an all-round bowling display countered Lahore’s aggressive opening line-up and spearheaded by Ubaid Shah’s 3/37 in four overs, restricted the visitors to 195/9 in 20 overs.
